World’s first fully autononous drone port opened in Würzburg

Würzburg, Germany, April 21, 2026 – While drone delivery is already partly autonomous today, it is clear that the future will be fully autonomous - end to end.

That is why we have partnered with our colleagues at Emqopter who have brought to life a test environment featuring a prototype of a fully autonomous drone port.

At the so-called EMQport, all ground handling is managed by a compact ground robot, the EMQBot. It transports packages, precisely positions them, and automatically loads them into any drone, e.g. the Wingcopter 198, without any human intervention.

After extensive testing for functionality and precision, the EMQport was officially unveiled on April 21, 2026 at Emqopter’s headquarters in Würzburg. It is believed to be the world’s first fully autonomous drone port, enabling deliveries that are more flexible, sustainable, and cost-efficient.

We are grateful for our partnership with Emqopter and the opportunity to benefit from their drone port initiative, as this enables the testing and deployment of cutting-edge technologies in Germany and thus contributes to the development and long-term viability of autonomous systems for practical applications.
